A real refreshment. Pleasant and cool movie about old age with a couple of emotional twists and adventures to make things more dangerous, exciting and fun. This movie is surprising in a good way and may teach us some things about life and human nature. It is about a former world famous cat burglar thief that is trying to cope with his old age. Though he is being frequently called by his daughter and visited by his son, calls and visits are not enough as his memory is not at it used to be.
So his son decides to get him a speaking robot helper to keep the house clean and prepare healthy meals. At first, he strongly objects but soon realizes that the robot can be of great help to him with some plans and ideas he starts to form in his head. This new circumstances in life make the old man feel better, more shrewd and alive and he goes with that flow.
The director does an excellent job in keeping the story realistic and there is not a second of chance of doubting its candidness. There is more why you should watch this movie. Although it is a feelgood story about aging in general it gives you a different perspective on couple of the things we find stereotypical in movies. It works on different levels too as we are confronted with the great truth that everything has its value but at the same time everything passes and nothing is forever so make use of what you can while you can. This is what underlies the whole movie but you are too busy watching it to ponder upon it.
The before mentioned, the great acting especially from Frank Langella, cool details, good storytelling and even some lighthearted but truthful action scenes, the fact that you have a highly intelligent robot making well informed conversations and you do not want to object that speaks for itself about the quality. It makes you feel that something like this could and will happen in a few years from now. Well probably not, at least not that quickly but it does not matter. It instills a certain hope of a better future and you will definitely be smarter after watching this.
